About Us / FAQs: Barry's was established in 1977, by Bruce Barry, who is still active in the business. Barry's has upsized its location four times due to business growth. We are presently located at 1907 Williston Road, South Burlington, Vermont 05403 where it has been for the last ten years.

Barry's operates out of an 18,000 sq. ft. building that includes a customer service area, a technical support department, three transmission-rebuilding rooms, and fourteen service bays.

Barry's team includes two customer service writers, three transmission rebuilders, two R & R technicians (remove and replace), and two diagnostic technicians. Our combined experience is over 160 years, with most of our crew having served more than twenty years at Barry's.

Barry's prides itself in its uncommon and unique onsite Research and Development Department. We have a full time staff dedicated to staying current on the fast changing technology in the transmission industry. This enables Barry's to provide the best possible service to our customers.

Barry's is ATRA and ASE certified, as well as technical associates of TransGo Research. These prestigious groups have accepted Barry's to participate in their commitment of being the best in the fast changing technology of the transmission industry.

Barry's membership of ATRA enables us to provide the best nation wide warranty service with over 2000 locations. The current best estimate has this at over 1000 more warranty locations than any franchise.

Our locally owned and operated shop of 26 years, with over 160 years of combined experience, prides itself in having built its own high standards of operation. We have built our own reputation and earned our own years of experience, unlike many franchises that advertise using the reputation and experience of the entire franchise, not the individual shop.

Know who you're dealing with, visit the shop, ask to see certifications, check with the Better Business Bureau, also find out how long the shop owner and crew have been in business. A business in this small town does not stay around for 26 years by not serving the public properly; no matter what you pay, if you happen to need warranty work it's nice to know the shop will be there for you. Don't let someone give you a price over the phone without a thorough diagnoses. They don't know what the malfunction really is and you may very well be agreeing to pay for something you don't even need. Don't say OK for something you wanted to hear, like a cheap price for a rebuilt; but if you decide to take that route, which Barry's does not recommend, make sure you don't leave that shop with a much higher bill than the over the phone price. Anyone can give a cheap price but we are not everyone, we want to know what you really need by doing diagnostics. It would be too bad if you paid for a rebuilt because of the over the phone price when all you really needed was a speed sensor at a much lower cost. It may be to your advantage to make sure employees do not work on any type of commission or incentives; greed may sometimes win over customer value. Barry's does not have commission employees.

With diagnostics, the factual information can be shared and you don't have to pay for something you don't even need (price is based on repair damage). Barry's recommends that you get the free check and thorough diagnostics and after we know what we're talking about we can help you determine if your vehicle is worth fixing. Barry’s does not want a customer to have a rebuilt put in their car if it is going to the salvage yard next month, but on the other hand we do not want a customer to condemn the car for a minor repair. Now you know why it is so important to get a thorough diagnoses, not a guess over the phone.

Barry's recommends you call us at 802-863-4343 and then we will determine the best option (often times it would require that you leave your vehicle with us for a thorough diagnostics so we know what area to repair). That's why Barry's offers this service at no charge, it's so important for us to know what we're talking about instead of guessing about possibilities you don't even need. Never let someone diagnose your car over the phone or by driving your car around the block; it just can’t be done and you may very well be paying for something you don't even need.
